Professor Terry William FISHER

Harvard University (Intellectual Property Law) and Director, Berkman Center for Internet and Society

Professor Fisher, renowned intellectual property professor, has taught at Harvard Law School since 1984, where he is currently the Hale and Dorr Professor of Intellectual Property Law and the Director of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. His academic honors include a Danforth Postbaccalaureate Fellowship (1978-1982) and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Stanford, California (1992-1993).

Dr. Xin WANG

Chief Scientist, ContentGuard Inc.

Dr. Xin Wang is the Chief Scientist and Director of DRM Architecture and Language at ContentGuard Inc. (www.contentguard.com), a spin-off company from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center based on the DRM project he initially worked on in 1996. He has been one of the key contributors and editors of the ContentGuard XrML (eXtensible rights Markup Language, www.xrml.org), the MPEG-21 REL (Rights Expression Language, http://www.chiariglione.org/mpeg/standards.htm), and the CRF CEL (Contract Expression Language, http://www.crforum.org/articles/about/candidate.html). He has served as Chair of the DRM workshop of the IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference in years 2007 and 2008 (http://www.ieee-ccnc.org/).

He is also an Adjunct Faculty member of Computer Science at the University Southern California, and an associate editor for the Journal of Computer and System Sciences. He received his B.S. and M.S from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.

Ms. Rebecca MacKinnon

Assistant Professor, Journalism & Media Studies Centre, The University of Hong Kong

Rebecca MacKinnon is a veteran journalist, China hand, and online media pioneer. In January 2007 she joined Hong Kong University’s Journalism and Media Studies Center as an Assistant Professor, teaching new media and leading efforts to study and support the development of participatory media and online journalism in Greater China and the Asia-Pacific region.

Before coming to Hong Kong MacKinnon was a Research Fellow at Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, where she co-founded GlobalVoicesOnline.org, an international online citizens’ media network and 2006 Grand Prize winner of the Knight-Batten “Innovations in Journalism” award.

MacKinnon’s primary research interests focus on issues related to the Internet in China, corporate responsibility for free speech and privacy, and the future journalism in the Internet age. Mr. Ken BAUTISTA

President, Digital Media Association of Alberta, Canada

Ken Bautista is CEO and co-founder of Hotrocket, an award-winning interactive production company that architects compelling multiplatform experiences for today’s connected audiences. Ken holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in instructional technology. Ken has organized and presented at several industry conferences, including a recent invite to speak at the Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum in Hong Kong. In 2006, Hotrocket's joint venture with Redengine, Rocketfuel, was named "Most Promising New Company of the Year" at the Canadian New Media Awards. Ken has also been awarded a Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Award of Distinction and was featured in the Edmonton Journal’s “30 Under 30″. Ken is also an active champion of Alberta’s $9.4 billion digital media and technology industry, currently serving as President of the Digital Media Association of Alberta.

Mr. Zunix LING 凌志聰先生

Mr. Ling Chi Chung Zunix who is a Law degree holder of Metropolitan Manchester University, holder of Computer Information Forensics Investigator, International ICT Council Linux Administration Expert, Linux Professional Institute Certificate and a LinuxPlus certified engineer. He has actively participated and lead in open source community, information technology organization to contribute public since 1997. He lectures on Linux technology, Computer Information Forensics Investigation, Cyberlaw and Intellectual Property Law and has been a Training Program Curriculum Development Manager to Sun Wah-Pearl Linux Training Center since 2003. Zunix is also a project-based journalist and author on open source technology and business for LinuxHall, Linuxpilot, E-zone, PcWeekly, PcPower, and Open Source Journal. Furthermore, he is the President of the Open source Application Knowledge Association (OAKA), and committee member for many technology community organizations.

Ms. Ashley Wong 黃詠欣小姐

Ashley Wong is project manager of Hong Kong's leading media art institution - Videotage. Having attained a BFA in Digital Image/Sound and the Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, she is an independent events producer, curator and arts manager. She is also founder of experimental events project LOUDSPKR and has organized events and programs across Canada and HK/China. Having worked closely with artists internationally in the non-profit sphere for over 5 years, she has knowledge of dialogues within artistic, music and contemporary art communities abroad. As a cultural facilitator, she seeks to motivate and mediate the arts and nurture creativity.

Mr. Stephen SELBY 謝肅方先生

Director, Intellectual Property Department

Born 12 April, 1951 Graduated from the University of Edinburgh with M.A. in Chinese (Hons.) in 1974. Mr Selby joined the Hong Kong Government in 1978 and has taken important positions in various departments. He became the Director of Intellectual Property in 1994. He was also appointed Justice of the Peace in 1993.

The Director of Intellectual Property heads a government department of about 90 staff, responsible for maintaining the Hong Kong SAR’s Trademarks, Designs and Patents Registries. The Department is also responsible for the promotion of Intellectual Property protection in the Hong Kong SAR, and for the preparation and maintenance of legislation to protect intellectual property in line with international standards and norms.

Mr. Jolland Chan 陳劍和先生 (向雪懷)

Jolland Chan, founder and CEO of ECD Hong Kong Ltd, is responsible for the overall strategic direction, policy, corporate planning and negotiations with major international and Indie record labels to license a wide variety of copyrighted digital content from content providers. He has over 20 years experience in the music industry. Through Jolland’s leadership, ECD is the first company in the regions to introduce Asian music from China, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia to the international music website i-Tunes and eMusic. The song “Olympic Beijing” written by Jolland was selected by the Beijing Olympic Committee (BOC) as the Promotional Theme song for the Beijing Olympic 2008 and supported by the China All Stars Support and Promotion Group for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the only promotional group appointed by the BOC and Jolland is working closely with BOC to promote Beijing Olympic Game 2008 via his international network.

Jolland’s IP expertise began when he joined Polydor and Polygram Records Company in 1977, which was then acquired by Universal Group in 1999 and he was appointed as Producer and A&R Manager of many well-known artists. In 1998, Jolland joined BMG Music Publishing Hong Kong Limited as Managing Director. Jolland reports duty to many Society Affiliations and Non-Profit organization and is also the Director of Music Publishing Association of Hong Kong (MPA) from 1998- 2000, Chairman of Pop Author Society of Hong Kong (PASH) from 1990 - 2000 and Vice-chairman and Director of Composers & Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) from 1988 - 2005. Jolland is also appointed by the HKSAR Government as the Conveyors of Marketing of the Performing Arts Society from 2007 - 2008, and was appointed in the sub-committee as Conveyors of Funding of the Performing Arts Society.

Dr. Joe YAU 邱祖淇博士

Dr. Joe C.K. YAU is a lecturer of the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. He is also a computer security researcher who focuses in digital rights management (DRM) and copyright protection. He was the chief architect of an e-Education copyright protection system, which is now in active use by thousands of students.

Besides DRM and copyright protection, Dr. Yau also has other research interest, such as software protection, information hiding, e-Government, e-Voting, etc.

Dr. Yau obtained his Ph.D. and M.Phil. from The University of Hong Kong, and his B.Math. from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He has published a number of journal papers and conference papers, mostly in the area of computer security and content protection.
